This is a considerably larger map than Ace's Lair 1 BETA - the main upper area is expanded, and there is now a lower region as well, as pictured above. With elegant simplicity, Ace makes it so that jumping down one of two holes upstairs land you in one of two pools of water, to cushion your fall; the traditional shout of Yahoo!" is heard, meanwhile! Once you scramble out, from either end you can jump out onto the rocky islands, grab dome weapons, and head for the smallest, outer rocky circles on each side, which teleport you back up. All handsomely done, and well arranged - the only minor quibble is that hypershots and triple strikes are available upstairs too, so there is no real reward for this activity. Why not have the megapower and whomper down below?
The main upper level is little changed, except for slightly stronger-seeming coloured lighting. However, the upper upper level, reached by ramps in all five rooms, is much expanded, so that there are now corridors connecting the rooms at this level...and two short linking corridors have the holes for you to leap down, to head for the nether regions. These additional corridors add a lot to the flow of the map, for fighting, and open things up for larger groups of players to have fun here.
Ace always has good ideas, and has created another fine arena. Not everyone would create a "lair" for themselves full of bubbly, deadly lava (the little devil), but it certainly makes for an excellent place to visit.
