Death Mueseim RR: 3.5 A large map for a very small download - but you can see from the screenshot how simple the layout is, although there are cobweb-lined corridors as well. Unfortunately, Braveheart spoiled that "small download" idea by using a texture file I did not have in my NAB textures folder: Egypt. I found it in my Unreal Tournament textures folder, and copied it across, but if you don't have it - well, it is 1.5MB, so you would be looking at a pretty big download, if Braveheart decides to post it. A bit smaller when zipped, true, but texture files don't slim down by more than a quarter, usually... Well, the TA Clan website does say "I'd better warn ya now this is a HARD map to stay alive.Good Luck!" And that is right. Use the bounce-pad in the wrong direction and you die on landing. Dive into the pool to get the whomper and you find it's acid. Investigate those two little sand-coloured heaps is the middle and it's goodbye. Go through the texture-covered doorway in the end wall, and into cobweb-lined corridors, and you'll soon find a death-spot. Is this all deliberate, or did Braveheart forget to "rebuild" the map? Too much death just stops gameplay dead - and it doesn't enhance even a quiet exploration much! In my news section, I have always called this map "Death Museum" - though Braveheart has always called it "Death Mueseim" - so either a "mueseim" is a special invention of Brave's, or he just can't spell, or take hints. And I do hate maps with wrongly-spelt names! This isn't the first one - the excellent Lego Monastary comes to mind, not by Braveheart of course. So, what do we have? Washed-out, plain colours, missing texture file, too many unavoidable death points, size without content, nonsense title - Brave has done a lot better than this before, and I hope he will come up with something more agreeable next time, but this place just does not work - sorry... A revised version, without Egypt.utx, is now available, so maybe, if you want this map at all, you should go for that... |
